French Coverage Document

This document shows the Core Knowledge, Wider Knowledge and Skills each year group cover.

Core knowledge is the key knowledge that builds year upon year to build strong language development. The wider knowledge builds our children’s cultural capital and understanding of the world and the skills allow children to develop transferable skills to apply across different contexts alongside their newly acquired knowledge.

French Policy

Please read our French policy for more information about what French looks like at Saint Patrick’s.

What you can do to develop French at home

  • Contact or visit your local libraries, as many now have dual language books to borrow.
  • Visit continental and international markets. These are held in Nottingham market square and dates can be found on their website.

Websites you may find useful:

  • Hello-World French Children’s Activities. Hello-World is a free project whose goal is to teach world languages to children through fun and educational immersion activities.
  • Duolingo website and app- This can be useful to support younger language enthusiasts although generally more suitable for older children and teens. The language program allows children to learn at their own pace and it rewards them both for the time they spend and the accuracy of their answers.
  • Sound Advice – https://www.soundadviceeducation.co.uk/ – This is our provider for our French curriculum and there are lots of supportive ideas for French on their website.

Special Linguistic Events in School

Each term Sound Advice hold an extravaganza where music and French combine to put on a showcase to school. Children perform songs, poems and role plays in French showing off their French linguistic skills and having an opportunity to share this learning with parents.

Please check our newsletters for an upcoming events.
